Liga Lomane

As a self-taught artist specializing primarily in oil painting, Liga’s journey is a profound exploration of identity, inspired by her Latvian heritage and the rich traditions of her homeland.
Born in Latvia, she now lives and works in London, United Kingdom.
Liga has been passionate about art from a young age but moved on to study international business management at university. She rediscovered her love for painting in her late 20s after joining a local painting group.
Liga’s work explores the complexities of human expression and relationships, deeply rooted in her own experiences growing up in an environment where mental health and abuse were overlooked. Her art delves into the painful journey of becoming fully human, highlighting how violence and toxic environments shape our beliefs and experiences.
Drawing inspiration from her love for dark fantasy films, Liga's portrait paintings explore paradoxes and polarities connected with our inner and outer worlds. Working with thin layers of oil paint allows Liga to give to the figures a soft, luminous, and human-like effect whilst keeping them otherwise mysterious and alien.
Through her work, she constantly challenges herself to reshape the world, attitudes, and connections, reflecting a journey of progression, transformation, and continuous change.
Since embarking on her professional art journey in 2023, her work has been exhibited across London, Barcelona, Madrid and Luxembourg. Liga has been honoured with Certificates of Artistic Achievement from The Pinacotheque Museum in Luxembourg in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Her art has also been featured in prominent publications such as Vulva fanzine magazine in Madrid, Devide magazine internationally, Artmosphere magazine in Barcelona and Megazine in London.
